Article Marketing Predictions for 2009

Last year I created an ebook titled “Article Marketing Strategies” and only used article marketing to promote my one page web site. The result: Listed on the first page of Google, MSN, AOL, HotBot, Netscape and second page of Yahoo. Sales from this ebook generate passive income each month automatically.

With many people losing their jobs and/or stuggling to pay their bills they will be starting an online business. Article marketing will become more prominent in 2009 as a way to generate free traffic to web sites.

Here’s an article from the No 1 article directory on the Net..EzineArticles.com

2009 Article Marketing Predictions

Want to stay on the cutting edge of what’s happening in the Article Writing & Marketing field?

Here are (10) trends that will have an impact in 2009 from our perspective:

1. Article Marketing Niche Expansion: Recessionary economy combined with the growing fear of starting a PPC (Pay Per Click) ad campaign due to perception of complexities to get started will lead more experts in every niche to produce more articles than ever before in an effort to drive more qualified traffic and leads back to their website. Yes, of course I’m biased here.

2. Attention Given To Time Efficiencies: Expert authors feeling both the pressure to produce a high volume of articles to achieve traffic & media exposure success combined with a lack of time or a lack of desire to give it the time will turn to two primary time-saving strategies:

* Audio to Articles – Either producing new audio clips and having them transcribed or taking existing audio training products, having them transcribed and edited into dozens of articles per hour of audio recording.
* Hiring of virtual assistants and/or part & full-time employees who will help edit new articles & repackage existing content into new articles freeing the expert to spend more of his or her time on producing more unique & original content.

3. Article Rejection Rates Go Up: Article rejection rates will go up another 3-5% (approaching 32-37% rejection of everything submitted) due to many issues largely having to do with a lack of original thought put into the article writing process, lack of interest in following the Editorial Guidelines and combined with our improved ability to deflect derivative article submissions (those that are rewritten to death).

4. Article Review Speed Improves: Article review speeds will increase by 3-6 hours faster for every membership level. We’re selfishly motivated on this one as we know there is a correlation between article submission quantity and speed of article review. Expect us to test this further in 2009.

5. Dead Links In Old Articles Become Unlinked
: People come and they go; websites come and they go… yet often we’re left with tens of thousands of articles that are very good in content yet the link is dead because the website owner walked away or shut down their site. We’re going to solve this problem this year as we’ve already spent a large part of 2008 in setting up an elaborate dead link discovery process… that will ultimately end up first encouraging members to fix their dead links, giving fair notice and time to complete such, ending in their articles with dead links getting the active link removed along with a text notice of the link. Articles with dead links are a liability (because they provide a poor user experience) we will not allow to continue in 2009.

6. Freelance Writers Who Niche-Specialize Will Be Richly Rewarded: Members who hired and were burned by cheap generalist ghostwriters will seek freelance writers who are specialized in knowledge around their niche instead of hiring a ‘jack or jill of all trades’ article writer. Articles will cost more, but the quality of reputation & trust factor will make up for it.

7. Members (Who Hire Freelancers) Take On Trainer Roles: Members who hire ghostwriters will seek writers who will dedicate a large chunk of their time to them (instead of serving hundreds of clients) and thus will create more of a partnership where our members will want to train the freelancer just the same as they would a full or part-time employee. This leads to higher quality articles & consistency.

8. In-House Writing Teams Become Common. The top .05% to 1% of members will hire part-time and/or full-time article writers to work in-house as employees to help them to repackage their existing content and produce an enormous amount of fresh new original & unique content that is quality-controlled in-house. Many will invest tens of thousands of labor dollars this year in this strategy and will find that the qualified traffic that results from it gives them a significant profit (and competitive market advantage) over other means of traffic acquisition.

9. Article Submission Service Provider Eco-System Expands: More than any other year, an industry will emerge stronger to support experts in all walks of life who want to leverage the power of Article Marketing, but don’t have the expertise in packaging or repackaging their content, doing the manual submissions on a frequent basis & performance reporting.

10. No End In Sight To The End of the Long Tail of Content Demand: Most of your competitors still have no idea what the LONG-TAIL is. Expect to see more experts exploit the long-tail specifically centered around their niche topic of expertise. It seems the closer one gets to answering the long-tail of demand for their niche, the more they discover there is no end to the tail of market demand for their unique expertise.

Keyword Research – How to Determine If Your Idea Will Be Profitable

There are many dead products being marketed online because they did not do the necessary keyword research. The product was dead before it was promoted. Don’t let yourself fall into the same trap. Many folks get so excited by their new idea they don’t even bother to check if their is a demand for it.

The purpose of doing the keyword research before you build a web site and market it by writing and submitting articles is to see if their is a demand and to determine how competitive your market is.

So how do you determine if there is a demand for your product?

1. Use the free wordtracker tool (Google “free wordtracker tool”)
Enter any of your primary keywords in the search box to find how many searches are being done for that term. The free tool will return 100 phrases you can use. If you wish to dig deeper try the monthly subscription.

2. Copy and paste these phrases into an excel spreadsheet labeled WordTracker at the top of the column.

3. Enter the title Google in the second column. Insert each phrase in the Google search box with quotations around them and press enter. This will give you the number of web sites returned for that term.

4. Enter anchor+keyword in the Google search box. The anchor text is the text used in the link for your phrase. It will return how many web sites are using that keyword in their anchor text.

5. Enter title+keyword in the Google search box. This provides all the web sites that contain your keyword in their title meta tags…a crucial element for optimizing your web site.

6. Enter url+keyword in the the Google search box. This returns web sites that contain your keyword phrase in a URL on their web pages.

7. Research the number of backlinks of top competitors. Take the top 10 web sites that appear in Google for your keyword, then do a backlink check for each of them.

Enter link:www.domain.com in the Yahoo search box then click the web search button. In the inlinks drop down box select “except from this domain” This will show you the number of backlinks this particular site has. If you want to rank higher than this site you will need to get ore backlinks than them.

Ideally you want to target the keywords that have the highest demand and the least number of competitors. For example if the keyword phrase “web site design maryland” produces a large number of searches, has only a small number of sites that contain that phrase in their title, anchor text, url and the top sites contain only a few backlinks, you stand a good chance of achieving top rankings.

If there is no demand for this phrase or it has too many competitors, choose another one. This is why you need to create a large keyword list at the beginning of your research.

Ebook Marketing – How to Market Your Ebook with Articles Part 2

5. Quality content

There’s a lot of junk content on the Net.

How is your article going to stand out from others?

Begin writing in a natural style like you are sitting across from your customer and talking to them. The quality of your content will determine how many readers you attract. Seek out popular ezines in your target market then ask them if they would be open to receiving your articles.

A thoroughly researched and well-written article will attract many more readers than one that was been hastily put together.

6. Call to action

So you’ve written a great article but no one is clicking on the link in your resource box. This means you need to take a hard look at your call to action. Try to make a natural transition from your content to your CTA.

For example you’ve just explained the benefits of writing articles to gain traffic. Your CTA could say something like:

“To learn the secret strategies of how to write and submit articles to gain lots of traffic please visit: www.yourdomain.com.”

This CTA emphasizes you’ve got to know these secrets if you are going to do this correctly. It appeals the reader to take action to find them.

7. Testing

The key to successfully marketing your ebook or product is to continually test your marketing strategies until you find one that works then stick to it. I’ve discovered article marketing is a very effective way to generate long term traffic but it needs to be done correctly. This means you need to try different headlines, resource boxes, vary the style of your content and submit your article to the top article directories and niche web sites.

Use Google Analytics or your hosting stats to track the visitors to your web site. If you write and submit articles consistently you will notice a steady increase in page views, rankings and sales.

Ebook Marketing – How to Market Your Ebook with Articles

So you’ve finally finished your ebook and are ready to release it to the public. One of the biggest problems selling your ebook is how to drive traffic to your ebook web site. A web site with no visitors is like having a store in the desert. You’re not going to make any sales.

Why is article marketing so effective?

1. Pre-sell your customer

An ad only gives you one chance to sell to your visitor unless you keep purchasing new ones. An article can contain more information than an ad. You can address all the benefits of your product or answer customers’ questions. Pre-selling the visitor prepares their minds for purchasing your product.

2. Everlasting traffic

Your article may remain on the Net forever when submitted to article directories, ezines and other online publications. If it attains and retains first page rankings in the search engines it will continue to drive traffic to your web site for many years. This means you can generate ongoing sales of your ebook automatically resulting in passive income.

3. Generate lots of backlinks

Backlinks are sites that link to your web site. The quality and quantity of backlinks determine your search engine rankings. A link from a high traffic web site means some of this traffic will get redirected to your site. Place 2 links in your resource box..one with your full web site address and the other containing the link text (anchor text).

Your rankings will increase in proportion to the number of articles you write and submit.
Always include your resource box but vary your anchor text so it doesn’t look like you are just trying to get links.

Submit your articles to the top article directories and niche publications.

4. Attractive headline

The headline is the first thing your readers see. It should encapsulate the content of your article. Here’s a couple of suggestions:

Ask a question that captures the interest of your reader. ie

Provide one clear benefit in your headline ie

Exit Survey – Improve the conversion rates of your sales letter with a pop-under

If you improve the conversion rates of your sales letter you make more sales. One of the biggest challenges of a web site is to prevent visitors leaving your web site without capturing their information so you can present them with other offers in the future.

What is an exit survey?

The purpose of the exit survey is to ask the visitor why they are leaving your web site. By getting feedback from your visitors, you can adjust your sales page to improve its conversion rate and make more sales.

Here’s an example of a web site with an exit survey:
http://www.articlerewards.com

After a visitor enters their information they are asked if they wish to add an exit survey to their own web site. In this case I provide a link to my main site where they can view my web site design services.

Features

*The beauty of this exit survey script is that it can’t be blocked by pop-up blockers.

*Visitor feedback is stored in a database

*The password protected administration panel provides access to the visitor feedback information submitted by the form on your sales page.

Alternative uses for the exit survey

The text used in the survey can be modified to reflect different offers. For instance you could offer an e-course, a subscription form or take them to another offer related to the first one.

Conclusion

This exit survey provides another opportunity to interact with your visitors before leaving your web page. The visitor feedback will help you to adjust the copy of your sales page and improve its conversion rates.

Ebook Marketing Strategies – Which Strategy Works Best For You?

To create a successful ebook marketing campaign, you need to be consistent. You can’t write one article or submit to one ebook directory and expect to make lots of sales. Marketing is a daily commitment.

If one ebook marketing strategy doesn’t work for you, move on to another until you begin seeing results. You may have to combine several marketing methods to be successful.

*Joint Ventures: Team up with other ebook authors or ezine publishers or webmasters to cross promote each other’s products or services. Agree to send referrals to each other and recommend each other’s products.

*Use an excerpt from your ebook
as an article and submit it to as many directories as possible. Be sure to mention your ebook in your resource box.

*Search out quality targeted ezines and purchase solo or top sponsor ad spots.

*Submit your ebook to as many ebook directories as you can. The more links to your ebook, the better.

*Write a keyword rich sales page and optimize it for the search engines with meta tags and page title.

*Offer two or three free bonuses with your ebook. make and offer that is very hard or impossible to refuse.

*Ask a few people to write reviews for your ebook in exchange for a free copy. Post the reviews on your site.

*Offer a free report as a lead
-in to your ebook. People love free information and if you offer a quality report that gets them interested they very well may want to buy your ebook.

*If you publish an ezine, ask other ezine publishers to swap solo or top sponsor ads. I prefer top sponsor ads but many marketers have said that solo ads get the most results.

*Start an affiliate program
and offer people a percentage to sell your ebook. One of the best places to do this is Clickbank. For a small fee you can set up your affiliate program and increase your sales many times over.

*Offer the first chapter or two as a freebie. Be sure and leave them wanting more.

*Visit message boards
or join discussion groups to learn marketing strategies that have worked for other publishers and authors. If it works for them, it can work for you as well.

Let me know which strategy works best for you

One of the best ways to generate immediate traffic to your ebook web site is to send press releases. Writing a press release is different to writing an article or web copy content. It should include content that is newsworthy such as a story about your product and what it will do for the customer.

Benefits of Press Releases

1. Attract lots of visitors

Online press release sites get sent to thousands of outlets. This may include Google and Yahoo news sites which receive thousands of visitors a day.

2. Boost search engine traffic

If you optimize your release for the search engines by including your main keywords it will get indexed by them. This generates lots of incoming links to your web site that will boost your rankings.

3. New contacts

Sending your press release to many news media outlets could result in huge promotional opportunities.

4. Saves time

The time invested in creating and sending a press release will result in attracting lots more traffic than writing an ad or an article.

5. Tracking

Most online press release sites allow you to track the number of people that have read it. This allows you to monitor its effectiveness.

How to Write a Press Release

It’s very important to write your press release correctly so it won’t get rejected. Here are several articles how to write one:

Ebook Marketing – Attract 1000s of Visitors by Writing Articles

Marketing your ebook is the most difficult and time consuming process. If you don’t get lots of traffic to your ebook sales page you won’t make much money. Even if you get lots of traffic but it fails to convert visitors into buyers you won’t sell many copies.

How to generate traffic to your ebook with articles

Select a section of your ebook and rewrite it into an a unique 500 word article. Submit the article to ezinearticles first since it is the most popular article directory because it gets the most traffic. Rewrite the article again and send it to the other main article directories.

Important points to include in your article

*create an attractive headline

*first paragraph should identify and describe a problem

*body of the article should offer several solutions to the problem

*closing paragraph should summarize the main points of your article

*resource box should provide a call to action (visit ebook sales page) link to your web site, and who you are.

*include 2 links in your resource box…one that includes the anchor text ie “article marketing strategies” and the other the full URL. The link containing your anchor text will give you a high quality back link to your web site and the full URL displays the full address should the visitor print out your article. It also gives you a second backlink.

Search for ezine publishers in your niche and offer them the article to send to their subscribers. If your article gets accepted by a large publication you will make many sales.

Article swaps

Offer to trade articles with another newsletter publisher. You run his article in your newsletter and your article in his.

Ezine directories

Create a list of ezine publishers in your niche and offer them your article.

Tip

If you want to create an article marketing campaign that generates a ton of visitors to your web site, write and submit 5 articles per week for several weeks. If you can write 20 articles per week this will generate even more visitors. The most important point is to do it consistently.

Ebook Covers – How to Create an Attractive Ecover

If you write a professional sales letter to sell your ebook but have an unattractive ebook cover you’ll lose the credibility of your sales letter. Your ecover should not be a template or just a simple image but be unique, colorful and integrate well with your content.

Ways to design your ebook cover

1. Hire a professional ecover designer

If you are not familiar with graphic editing tools this would be the way to go. It will save you hours of time trying to figure out how to do it yourself. You have the reassurance that your design will be professionally done.

Here’s a professional ecover designer that is reasonably priced and used by several internet marketing gurus.
http://www.ecoverexpert.com

2. Ecover software

This may be a good option if you plan on selling many ebooks. You purchase the software once then you can use it as many times as you like. To find the software, enter “ecover software” in Google or use http://www.webgraphicscreator.com

The downside of this option is it that your ebook cover may look like others created with the same software as they tend to rely on templates.

3. Do-it-yourself

If you have graphics software such as photoshop or fireworks and are familar with the tools, try creating it yourself. You can apply your creative talents, and produce many different designs. If you get good at it you may even offer it as a service to your customers.

Where to place your ebook cover

Your ecover image will be the first thing noticed on your page (unless you have a prominient header graphic) because it stands out from your web copy. Since everyone reads from left to right, place it on the left side with your headline text beside it.

Tip

Make your ebook cover graphic link to your order page. Sometimes visitors will click this immediately to skip the sales letter because they have already decided to purchase your ebook.

Increase Conversion Rates – Top 7 Ways to Improve Your Sales Letter Conversion Rate

In my previous article I discussed creating an attractive design for your ebook sales page to convert visitors into buyers. The other main factor is the quality of the content on the page. Your sales letter should pull the visitor through the page. This means the text and images must flow seamlessly together and pre-sell the visitor so he or she will want to click the order button.

Top 7 Ways to Improve Your Sales Letter Conversion Rate

1. Stress the benefits

Put yourself in your customers shoes and think what’s in it for them. Point out the problems they are facing and how your product
will help solve them.

2. Provide details

Detail what your product will do ie reduce weight, get more traffic. You might even include the whole table of contents
to show the detailed information covered in your ebook.

3. Establish credibility

Why should this person believe you..they’ve never met you? Include examples how this product helped you. Provide testimonials of people who have used the product. Other people’s opinions and experiences often carry more weight than your own opinion or experience. This probably is due to unscrupulous businesses giving false or incorrect information that burned their customers.

4. Create a sense of urgency

The majority of visitors arriving at your sales page will procrastinate and leave the purchasing decision for later. They may forget to return so how can you get them to come back?

Here are a few ideas…

a. You could say something like:

“this price is for a limited time only”
“pre-launch price”
“the price will increase after this date…”

b. One time offer

Warn the person this price will only be offered once.
When they return to the same page the price will have increased.

c. Create a pop-up

When they leave the sales page a different page will pop up displaying a reduced price ie “get $10.00 off the price if you act now”

5. Don’t include navigation bars

This will only distract your readers by having them click elsewhere. You need to create a single focus to maintain the power of your sales copy.

6. Offer an e-course

Create a series of follow-up messages using an autoresponder. This enables you to expose your offer several times (instead of one time) increasing the chances of the person buying.

7. Over deliver

Selling your ebook means you want to GET something (money) from your visitor. Provide a high quality bonus or bonuses that the visitor does not expect to receive. It will make help remove objections to their purchasing decision.
