Posting Articles – Where Should You Post Articles First?

Article marketing

So you’ve invested time into writing a an article for your niche. Now you want to get the maximum leverage out of it to drive traffic to your website, opt-in form or product. Most website owners simply submit it to article directories however this is not a good idea. A more effective strategy is to post it first to your blog then to a directory.

Reasons to post articles to your blog first

Avoid distractions

Most article directories sustain their business models by including adsense ads on their pages. Often they are located at the top, side and bottom of your content. This means visitors can easily be distracted by these ads and purchase their products instead of reading the entire article and getting redirected to your website from the link in your resource box.

By posting the article to your blog first you control what your visitors will read. Also you can display your own products or AdSense Ads to generate passive income.

Own your article

Posting your article elsewhere means you’ll lose ownership. What if the company or publication ceases to exist. All the hard work you put into writing the content will be lost forever.

Posting it to your blog first means you are the unique owner of the content and it will constantly attract new visitors as long as your blog remains on the Net. Your blog becomes an archive where you’ve published all your articles.

Attract traffic to your own web property

If you’ve taken the time to carefully craft a captivating title and optimized the content for the search engines your article will attract traffic. Posting it elsewhere will attract traffic to someone else’s web property. Some folks may read to the end of your article and click the link in your resource box.

Post the article to your own web property first. Search engines only index and rank the first content they find. If you first post it to an article directory or other publication it will rank ahead of your blog post.

To benefit from publishing your content in both locations post the original article on your blog or website first then rewrite some of it (by changing the title, first paragraph or 2 and the resource box) then submit it to an article directory. Now you’ll have 2 articles working for you in the search engines.

Become recognized as an expert in your niche

If you’ve published hundreds of articles on your blog you’ll be recognized as an expert in your niche. If it’s published elsewhere first it may appear all over the the Net but sometimes publishers leave out the resource box so you don’t receive any credit for writing it plus readers don’t get redirected to your website to purchase your products or subscribe to your ezine.

Rewrite your article before posting it elsewhere to be recognized as an expert author from people reading it in other publications.

Tip
If you want to attract more visitors re-purpose your content by creating a video article and submitting it to video sharing websites. You can also create a podcast and upload it to iTunes and other podcast directories. Writing the article and posting it to your blog is just the first step in marketing your articles.
