Increase Web Site Traffic by Writing More Articles

Writing a submitting a few articles doesn’t generate a lot of traffic these days. It’s like throwing mud at a wall and hoping it will stick. Of course it’s possible that a publisher will see your article and send it to his list of 10,000 subscribers. To increase the chances of this happening you need to increase the volume of articles written.

How to increase article volume

1. Create an article writing plan

Decide how many articles you will write each week or month then stick to the plan. The key to writing and submitting articles successfully is to do it consistently over an extended period of time. This will generate a continuous flow of visitors to your web site.

2. Create sets of articles based on a theme

Sometimes it’s easier to write several articles if they are based on a common theme. For example if you sell water filters, write several articles on why you need to drink purified water. The subtopics could be:

Benefits of drinking purified water
Types of water filters
7 tips for buying a water filter
How to install a water filter

3. Vary your title and resource box

Create a different title for each article topic. Vary the content, anchor text and links in the resource box. Search engines want to see a variety of links pointing to different pages of your web site, not just the home page.

4. Submit sets of articles

Instead of submitting one article at a time, submit the whole set. Article editors will review and approve a set at a time instead of one at a time. This means you will receive a larger boost in traffic than submitting one article because readers immediately see several articles from the same author on the same theme.

5. Submit to other publishers

Instead of just submitting articles to article directories, find ezine publishers that specialize in publishing your written content. This will help spread your message and gain more visitors.

Tip

Create a list of article themes then take massive action. As you increase your article volume, the amount of visitors will increase also.

Article Marketing – How to increase traffic by targeting your main keyword

If article marketing is not done correctly you won’t increase visitors to your web site. Some folks write articles without targeting a specific keyword or keyword phrase. The more tightly focused your article is the better your chances of receiving high rankings and getting more traffic.

The problem

Search engines don’t want to show duplicate content in their results pages. They want searches to be as targeted as possible. If you write your article based on your main keyword their is a greater chance of it being indexed by them.

How to target your best keywords

1. Create a list of your main keywords

Place yourself in your customers shoes for a few minutes and think what particular keywords they would enter in the search engines to find your web site. Keep adding to the list until you’ve exhausted all your ideas.

2. Use a keyword research tool

Open a free keyword research tool such as WordTracker or Keyword Discovery and enter each keyword from the list above. You’ll get a list of keyword results that show how
many times that word has been searched on in one month. Repeat this procedure for each keyword.

3. Select the long tail keywords

Keywords that receive the highest number of searches are generally the most popular. This makes it very difficult to rank high for these keywords. Select the keyword phrases with a low number of searches (long tail). These are less competitive so you’ll have a better chance of getting high rankings for your article.

4. Weave the targeted keyword phrase into your content

Include the keyword phrase naturally throughout your content. Don’t overdo it as it will look like spam and won’t read well for your visitors. Remember it’s more important to write your article so it appeals to your visitors than the search engines.

5. Include your keyword phrase in the title and resource box.

Place your keyword at the beginning of your article title like I’ve done for this article. Instead of writing:

“How to increase traffic by targeting your main keyword”

Write…

“Article Marketing – How to increase traffic by targeting your main keyword”

6. Include your keyword phrase in the anchor text

Anchor text are the words contained in your hyperlink. The resource box at the end of your article allows you to place anchor text in it that links back to your site. This not only directs visitors to your web site but builds valuable backlinks that help increase your rankings in the search engines

7. Include your keyword phrase in links pointing to your web site

When visiting blogs, forums or doing link exchanges be sure to include your keywords in the anchor text of your incoming links. Google ranks your web site according to the number and quality of links leading back to your site.

Deep Links – How Deep Linking Will Increase Traffic to Your Web Site

Most site owners try to get links pointing to just their home page. This is a big mistake because you miss out on attracting traffic to other pages of your web site. Also your incoming links may not be directing visitors to the targeted content they are looking for because it is on your internal pages. This is why you need to cultivate deep links.

What are deep links?

Theses are links that point directly to a specific page of your website instead of just pointing you to the home page.

Benefits of Deep Links

1. Deep linking help visitors navigate to the exact location of the item or service they are searching for.

Online visitors want to find the most relevant information as quickly as possible. They don’t want to spend time searching all over the Net. By providing the most targeted information possible you will attract and retain those visitors thus generating more traffic to your site.

2. Increase search engine rankings

A site that contains deep links to other pages will gain high rankings because it has more depth than web sites that just have links pointing to the home page. Make sure your site has a mix of home page and internal page links.

3. Target multiple keywords

Stuffing all the main keywords in your home page will dilute its effectiveness. It’s better to create a page of content that only includes one or 2 keywords or keyword phrases. The content you create should be all about the topic of that particular keyword. This increases the opportunity of that page to rank well for that keyword.

4. Encourages natural linking

If Google sees 1000 links to your homepage and just a few links to the rest of your site they’ll perceive you haven’t participated in natural linking strategies. Natural linking is where other sites naturally link to the content within your web site. Natural links generate deep links.

5. Builds page rank

Page rank measures how many links point to a website, and also the quality of the sites providing the links. If you have the Google tool bar installed on your browser it will display a little green bar. A page rank of 5 (PR5) means that your site has a good number of links pointing to it.

Only building links to the home page will boost your home page PR and pass on some of the PR to your internal pages if they link to it. A better strategy is to increase the PR of your internal pages with deep links.

Keep in mind Google no longer provides an accurate reflection of PR, therefore only use it as an indicator of your site’s page rank.

6. Attract visitors to deeper pages

A large web site often contains pages in directories that are several levels away from the home page. This makes it difficult for search engines to index those pages. Search engines generally visit pages that are only a few links away from the home page.

By getting other web sites to link to these deeper pages you increase the PR of those pages and attract more overall traffic to your web site.

7. Give authority to internal pages

Your internal pages can carry as much weight (authority) as your home page if you build links to these pages based on specific keywords. They will also rank higher than your home page if you have built your content around that keyword phrase. This will increase the number of pages the search engines will index form your website.

Conclusion

I highly recommend creating deep links as part of your overall web site marketing strategy instead of just getting links to your home page. You will increase the number of visitors to all parts of your site and boost the authoritativeness of its content.
