If you’re not leveraging YouTube to drive traffic to your website you’re losing out on a lot of traffic. It currently receives 3 billion daily views. The key to attracting traffic is to find out what sites your potential audience visits most often then get in front of that traffic.

1. Capture attention

Most folks these days have grown up watching TV and/or playing video games therefore video is very familiar to them. It engages the senses, is more exciting than reading boring text and therefore captures the attention of your visitors.

2. Some visitors prefer video to text

Instead of just reading content many people prefer to read, listen and watch at the same time. Of course this means your video has to be interesting and/or contain valuable content to keep your visitors engaged.

It’s no longer easy to get your written content ranked high on the search engines because competition is fierce. Every day thousands of more sites are coming online some of which are your competition. If you stop marketing your site your rankings may disappear and so will your traffic and sales.

Have you ever read a long sales page to the end? Often I read the first few paragraphs or skim through the headings to see if the content interests me then skip to the “buy now” button.

A video sales page makes it easier to captivate your audience, takes less time to create and visitors usually watch the whole video to get your marketing message. A video sales page often out-converts a written sales page because you are appealing to more senses ie sight and hearing.

5. Shows your personality

It’s difficult to get across your personality in written form however with video it’s easier for visitors to establish a personal connection with you. For instance you can create a talking head video by talking into the camera or you can video yourself talking while driving down the highway at sunset(not recommended).

6. Convert written content into video

If you’re using articles to market your website you know submitting the same article to multiple directories won’t attract more visitors because search engines don’t rank duplicate content. They will only rank the first published article not the duplicates.

Converting your article into video avoids creating duplicate content. Simply read the article in front of a video camera then submit it to video sharing sites. Now you have another method for attracting a wider audience.

7. Create how-to videos

Many times I’ve searched YouTube for how-to videos because it’s much easier to look over a person’s shoulder than reading a boring set of instructions. Often the author forgets to mention an important step in written instructions but will include that step in the video. With video you have the ability to pause it while you carry out the task then restart it again to move to the next step.
