Most blog owners make the mistake of constantly creating new blog posts but do little or no promotion afterwards then wander why they didn’t receive any traffic. After staying on this treadmill for months or even years they become discouraged because they’re not generating sales from all their hard work.
You should invest the same amount of time promoting your blog post as writing it otherwise no one will benefit from the great value you are offering.
Wouldn’t you like to get hundreds or thousands
of people reading every post you create?
Here are the 21 ways to promote your blog post:
1. Create an epic post
An epic post is one that stands out from most other posts on the Net in the value it provides. Make them think that if the content had been offered as a product they would have been willing to pay for it.. The main purpose of an epic post is to provide such incredible value that it naturally gets shared by others.
Here are examples of 3 epic posts I’ve written lately:

2. Create a captivating headline
If your headline doesn’t grab the attention of your readers they won’t continue reading the read of the post. Use this headline analyzer to experiment creating different headlines until you achieve an EMV (Emotional Marketing Value ) score of 50%-75%. This score is what most professional copywriters’ headlines will achieve while the most gifted copywriters will have 50%-75% EMV words in their headlines.
3. Share on Social Media
Google looks at the number of social signals your content receives to determine its rankings in the search engines. So after you’ve published your post share it on your Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn accounts and encourage others to also share the content with their network of friends.
4. Submit to JustReTweet.com
To get an initial boost in social traffic get your post retweeted by visiting JustReTweet.com. You gain credits by retweeting others content. With the credits you’ve accumulated you get others to retweet your own post resulting in a nice boost in traffic.
5. Create a StumbleUpon Ad
For $10.00 you can receive 100 targeted views to your content. My experience in using this method of promotion is that you actually receive close to 200 views because the extra 100 are gained organically. Visit StumbleUpon.com to get started. Within a few hours of posting your add you’ll see a nice spike in traffic directed toward the post you’re promoting.
6. Email your list
Building a list of subscribers is one of the greatest assets your business will have because the people on your list are usually the most responsive. Announce your post to your list and ask them to share it with their friends via their social media accounts.
7. Create a YouTube video
YouTube videos receive billions of views each day. Make sure you capitalize on redirecting some of that traffic to your own blog by converting some of your content into video and embedding it on your blog. A video reduces bounce rates (how long a person spends on your page) which helps improve your rankings.
Create a 2-3 minute video illustrating one of the main points (or several points )in your content then upload it to YouTube.
Example
For my epic post I created a YouTube video named Free Web Hosting Guide – 3 Secrets You Probably Didn’t Know! then uploaded it to YouTube and embedded it within my post content to get it to rank. Last time I checked it ranked on the first page of YouTube for the keyword phrase “Free Web Hosting Guide.”
8. Internal Linking
The number and quality of links pointing to your own post helps increase its rankings in the search engines. Instead of getting links from other web properties first look for related content to link to within your own blog. This helps visitors stay on your own blog instead of leaving and going elsewhere to find related information.
Tip: Use the MaxBlogPress Ninja Affiliate Plugin to automatically convert keywords on your blog into money making affiliate links. Not only does it link to affiliate products, you can set up certain keywords to link to your previous posts
9. Comment on related blogs
This strategy is only effective if your comment offers value to others. For instance if you just say something “great post” or just promote your own product it will probably be viewed as spam and deleted. Instead search for blogs related to your niche that have a high level of engagement then write a thoughtful comment that supplements the post.
To search for related blogs use Google Blog Search, Technorati or simply enter “blog+keyword” in the Google search box.
10. Submit to Slideshare.net
Converting your content into a different format (re-purposing) enables you to reach a different audience. One of these ways is to create a slideshow of your content then submit to Slideshare.net. This can easily be done using Powerpoint or Keynote.
Slideshare also allows you to submit PDF files so if if you can’t use slides convert your content into a PDF file using OpenOffice.org (free software).
11. Submit to Scribd.com
Scribd is a document sharing site which enables you to submit your PDF document . Make sure you include links in your content that redirect readers back to your blog post. Instead of submitting the same content as on your blog, rewrite a portion of your content so it’s unique before submitting it.
Here’s a list of the top document sharing sites:
Calameo.com
DocStoc.com
Issuu.com
WattPad.com
Yudu.com
Gazhoo.com
Edocr.com
MemoWare.com
Ziddu.com
WePapers.com
Empressr.com
12. Convert to an infographic
An infographic is content displayed in graphical format so it’s easy to view. The fastest and easiest method for getting this done is to search Fiver.com for someone that will do this for $5.00. After your infographic has been created submit it to Pinterest and include it on your blog so visitors can link to it. Also offer readers to place it on their own blog as long as they include a link back to your post.
13. Convert to an Ebook or Short Report
If you’ve created a long post (2-3000 words) convert it to PDF file and submit it to popular ebook directories. Alternatively bundle several related posts together to create your ebook. Create an ecover graphic to place at the top of your content. Display the graphic on your blog to promote your ebook.
Here is a list of the most popular ebook directories to submit to:
Changethis.com
Free-ebooks.net
Getfreeebooks.com
Thefreesite.com

14. Create a Kindle Book
Amazon has built a publishing empire you can easily tap into. By re-purposing your content into a Kindle book and publishing it on Amazon you can generate sales from the content you worked hard to create. With a little link building you easily get your book to rank on the first page of Google.
To create your book use the .doc format, include page breaks between chapters, remove bullet points, headers, footers and special fonts. Proof read the content to check for spelling and grammar errors and make sure you create an attractive e-Cover as this is the first thing visitors will notice.

15. Guest Blogging
This is a great strategy for leveraging traffic from a blog that has already built up a loyal base of readers. You simply create a highly valuable article (that’s worth paying for) then contact other bloggers in your niche to get it published on their blog. Make sure you include a link back to your own blog so you not only receive a boost in traffic but gain a powerful backlink.

16. Submit to the Top Article Directories
Even though this tactic is not as popular as it once was (pre Penguin and Panda Updates) it still works for building high quality backlinks and generating extra traffic. The key is to rewrite some or all of your content so you can submit a unique article that includes a link back to your post in the resource box. Ezine publishers often pick up well written articles from directories to publish in their ezines.
Here’s a list of the top article directories to submit to:
EzineArticles.com
GoArticles.com

17. Submit a Press Release
Press releases are an effective method for quickly getting a wide range of exposure and attracting lots of high quality backlinks to your post. This boosts your rankings and generates more traffic. It’s very important to write your press release correctly so it won’t get rejected.

18. Submit to Social Bookmarking Sites
Social Bookmarking allows you to save your favorite bookmarks online to read later and share with others. Fortunately for you this method also provides free backlinks to your content.
Tip: I use SocialMonkee.com for submitting my post to social bookmarks. Get lifetime access by signing up for an account for only $7.00. It automatically bookmarks your URL to 25 social bookmarking sites and can be completed in less than 2 minutes.
19. Submit to Podcast Directories
You can easily re-purpose your existing content and connect with an entirely new audience by creating a podcast of your blog content then submitting it to podcast directories.
One of the easiest ways to do this is to sign up for a free account at BlogTalkRadio.com then record your own radio show by just reading your content into a microphone (even if you don’t have any live listeners). The audio is automatically converted into a podcast which can then be submitted to the top podcast directories such as iTunes.

20. Submit to Niche Directories
Submitting to directories related to the topic of your content generates diverse backlinks which is what Google and other search engines are looking for to rank web pages. To find niche directories enter keyword+directory in the Google search box.
Tip: I use a service called Directory Maximizer which submits your content to 100 different directory sites for just $14.00 per month. The beauty of this service is that once you get it set up it submits your content automatically to one hundred new directory sites each month.
21. Submit to Ezine Publishers
Ezine Publishers are constantly on the look out for fresh content to send to their subscibers. An article published in an ezine with thousands of loyal readers can generate a large stream of visitors to your content.
Tip: The Directory of Ezines is the best place to find updated ezines (updated every week) related to your audience. They are categorized by topic and how many subscribers they currently have.
Some other benefits of DOE Membership include:
- Deliver your message to at least 6000 Twitter followers every time you write a new post.

22.(Bonus Tip) Build relationships with related bloggers
Instead of going it alone, find popular bloggers related to your own niche and build a relationship with them by commenting on their blogs, writing guest posts and sharing their content on your social media sites. By developing these friendships online you can generate traffic on demand y notifying them each time you publish new content.
Tip: If you have a WordPress blog I highly recommend installing the JetPack Plugin so you can easily view (via the WordPress Dashboard) how many visitors you are getting from each post and where they are coming from. Monitoring these statistics will enable you to quickly see which promotion method performs the best.
My Final thoughts
Commit to going through all 21 steps a few times to see which methods generates the best results. Currently the StumbleUpon Ad generates the most views for me. If you don’t have time to go through all 21 steps for every post just focus on the most effective methods based on their performance for previous posts.

Great article! Even though I’ve been social marketing for 5 years now, there’s always something else to learn and this type of marketing can never be exhausted.
I create automotive “How to” videos and I especially like the idea of taking my video content & blog articles and creating an eBook out of it.
Thanks for the great tips!
You’re welcome Dave..I’m glad you discovered something new.
