Video Marketing on YouTube is a highly effective traffic generation method if done properly. Most marketers make the mistake of simply uploading their video to YouTube then leave it as is. They don’t know how or take the time to promote it effectively and therefore miss out on generating traffic and potential sales.
5 Steps to More Views on YouTube
1. Identify your keywords
Keywords are how search engines will find your videos and rank them. Use Google’s free keyword tool to uncover the main keywords people use in your niche. Place them at the beginning of the title and description tags. Also include them in your video tags.
2. Call to action
If you don’t tell your visitors what to do and how to do it at the end of your video they’ll leave without taking any action. For instance it can be as simple as saying: “Download my free report on “5 Steps to More Views on YouTube” by visiting domain.com.”
Here are 3 ways to add a call to action:
(i) Call to action overlay. This places a powerful effective banner inside your video that gets people to click through to your website. It only takes a few minutes to set up.
(ii) Add your full website address to the beginning of your description tag so visitors can immediately click on it to go to your website.
(iii) Add video annotations. This allows you to add interactive commentary to your videos.
Examples of how to use them include:
- Add background information about the video
- Create stories with multiple possibilities (viewers click to choose the next scene)
- Link to related YouTube videos, channels, or search results from within a video
You control what the annotations say, where they appear on the video, and when they appear and disappear.
3. Upload a transcript of your video
I did this recently for a video article where I created a video slide show of the main points while a transcript of the entire content was displayed beneath the video while it was playing. Since I had already written the content I simply saved it as a text file and uploaded it to YouTube. Search engines are able to index the textual content which helps increase the rankings of your video.
4. Get backlinks
The quality and quantity of links pointing to your video will boost it’s rankings in the search engines and increase traffic and views. Get backlinks by adding your video URL to forum and blog posts. When submitting articles to article directories and ezines in your niche include your video URL in the author resource box.
5. Share your video with others
Use social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn to notify others about the new video you’ve uploaded. Send an email to your list of subscribers and/or embed the video in a blog post. The wider your audience the more views you’ll receive from your YouTube videos.
