HTML Marquee Codes – Create Easy Scrolling Images

You may have seen a scrolling marquee on some web sites but wondered if you can add a little more creativity to it. Let’s first discuss the basics of the html marquee code before showing you a way to do something more creative with it such as scrolling images.

What is a marquee?

In HTML, a marquee is a small section of the browser window that displays text that rolls across the screen. This tag works only in Internet Explorer.

Uses of the marquee

Pros

1. Church marquee. You want to make an announcement that may change daily or weekly. Churches often display a scrolling marquee on a sign outside their church to attract visitors to their church.

2. Get attention. It quickly draws the attention of your visitors to that location on the web page.

3. Special occasions. Some sites use it to announce specials pertaining to holidays i.e. Christmas, Easter etc

Cons

1. Distracts visitors from the actual content of your site.

2. Does not work in all browsers. Be sure to test your html marquee codes before uploading your web page.

  16. I have some marquee scrolling code on my blog located at the bottom right of it here: http://paganbydesign.blogspot.com

It scrolls images horizontally that when moused over will stop, and when clicked will go to the associated links for the images.

My problem is that I can’t figure out for the life of me HOW to get it to work in the Internet Explorer browser. It works in Firefox and Chrome just fine.

This is what the code looks like:

    [div class=”textwidget”></a]

    </div]

Can you – or anyone – please help me to edit it so it will work in Internet Exploder (typo on purpose) too? Note that I changed the beginning and ending arrows to the bracket sign so it won't "work" here but you can see the code.

  17. UGH the code still didn’t show up correctly for you to view it…sorry, I don’t know how to post it all there.

  18. Update: I messed up my first post when I said the images scroll horizontally (duh, actually they scroll vertically). Anyway, I put code into my blogger template to Emulate IE6 and now it “sort of works” except that my images stop scrolling (only in IE after it reaches the height I defined in the html, then starts over…so in IE people are only seeing like 1 1/2 buttons out of about 20 that I have in there.

    Any ideas?
