What is Super Thanks and how does it work?
Super Thanks is YouTube’s newest way to support you and your content. If a viewer really loves your content, they can purchase a Super Thanks on your video, and a colorful comment will stand out amongst all the other comments under your video. They can select a donation of $2, $5, $10, or $50.
“But, Herman, can you make a Super Thanks donation from your phone?”
Absolutely, just tap the Thanks icon under the video, select the amount that you wish to pay, then tap BUY AND SEND. You’ll receive a Super Thanks animation to confirm your donation.
When a viewer makes a Super Thanks donation, they can also customize their Super Thanks comment. It’s a great way to recognize top fans, identify the comments to reply to, and learn what content is resonating best with your viewers.
Who is eligible?
If you’re currently a YouTube partner and have 4,000 public watch hours and 1,000 subscribers in the past 12 months, you’ll be able to monetize your channel and enable Super Thanks. It’s currently available in 68 countries, so viewers from those available countries will be able to see the Thanks button below the video and be able to purchase a Super Thanks.
How much revenue do Creators receive from a Super Thanks donation?
Creators receive 70% of Super Thanks revenue after local sales tax and App Store fees have been deducted. The transaction costs and credit card fees are currently covered by YouTube.
Here’s how to enable Super Thanks on your channel
- Click on Monetization in your YouTube Studio dashboard.
- Click on Supers,
- Next to Super Thanks, move the slider to the right.
- After you’ve turned on Super Thanks, the Thanks button will appear on all previous and future videos, but it won’t appear on live streams or premieres.
- All your earnings will be received through AdSense, so any earnings you get from Super Thanks will be added to the earnings you receive from ads, super chats, et cetera.
How to turn off Super Thanks
Keep in mind that when you turn Super Thanks off, the Super Thanks feature will be removed from all the videos across your channel, but you’ll still be able to see your historical earnings.
- Just move the slider to the left.
- It says, “Turn Off Super Thanks; if you continue, your fans will no longer see Super Thanks as a purchase option, and you’ll no longer earn revenue from it.”
- You need to check the box, “I understand the implications of this action,”
- Click “turn off”
How to check your earnings
- Click on Analytics in YouTube Studio
- Click on Revenue
- Under Transaction Revenue, you’ll see a breakdown of your total Super Thanks earnings.
- If you want to see the Super Thanks earnings for an individual video, go to the Content tab in YouTube Studio and select a video.
- Click on Analytics.
- Click on Revenue
- Under Transactions, you’ll see all the Super Thanks earnings for that specific video.
How to view and mange Super Thanks comments
- Click on your profile icon,
- click on YouTube Studio,
- Click on Comments,
- Click on the filter icon, select From Super Thanks.
Now you can review and manage all your Super Thanks comments. You can reply, like, heart. If you click on the three dots, you can remove the comment. Just keep in mind that if a buyer deletes their Super Thanks comment, it won’t appear in your comments, but you’ll still be able to keep the earnings.
Here are 6 hot tips to generate more revenue from Super Thanks
- Show gratitude to viewers who buy Super Thanks by replying to their comments.
Now you can receive instant cash from viewers just from making good content. - Pin your Super Thanks comment to the top of your comments.
This will motivate viewers to make a donation via Super Thanks for any future videos that they may watch. - Post in the community tab.
Make a post on your community tab that thanks all your Super Thanks contributors. - Identify content that gets lots of Super Thanks comments.
This means that viewers are engaged in that video and really appreciate the content that you’re providing. When you see that, make a similar video or approach the topic from a different angle. - Remind viewers to give Super Thanks in their favorite videos.
You can remind them while watching the video or you can add a Super Thanks graphic. - Let your fans know how you’re using the revenue from Super Thanks.
f you’re using the Super Thanks donations to buy more equipment, show them using the equipment in the next video.
For example, recently the trackpad on my MacBook here stopped working, so I could no longer use it for editing videos while on the go. I invested in an M1 MacBook Pro so I could easily edit 4K videos while on the go. Fans will more likely give a donation if they know what they’re supporting, and they’ll appreciate the transparency.
