Here’s the manual way to check the keyword ranking for an individual video in both YouTube and Google.
- Click file in your Chrome browser
- Click new incognito window, it says, “You’ve gone incognito
Incognito means you can browse privately and other people using the device won’t see your activity. If you don’t use incognito mode, you won’t get accurate ranking results.
- Enter the keyword phrase, you want to check the rankings for in Google, I got How To Translate YouTube Videos To English, now I can see that my video ranks on the first page of Google out of 212 million results.
Let’s check YouTube….
- Enter YouTube in the browser bar
- Enter my keyword phrase How To Translate YouTube Videos To English
- Click search.
Now I can see that my video also ranks number one on page one of YouTube.
Here’s how to quickly check the keyword ranking for an individual video using ytrank.net.
- Insert your YouTube video URL in ytrank.net
- Select your country, I will choose United States,
- Add your keyword phrase…I’ve got How To Translate YouTube videos.
- Click find rank.
It shows the rank on page one of YouTube position four. - If I click on video rank page, it shows me the thumbnail and then the position on my rankings.
Here’s how to check the keyword rankings in your tags using TubeBuddy or vidIQ
- Log into YouTube Studio
- Click on analytics
- Enter your keyword phrase in the search bar where it says, “Search across your channel“.
- Enter How To Translate YouTube Videos To English.
- Select my video
- Click details.
- Scroll down to the bottom
Here you can see the rankings for all these different keyword phrases for this video. The green icons come from TubeBuddy and the blue icons come from vidIQ.

How do you check your traffic source types in YouTube Analytics?
Instructor:
- Log into YouTube Studio
- Click on analytics
- Click on the reach tab.
- Scroll down to where it says, “Traffic source types“
- Click “see more”.
Now you’ll be able to see where most of your traffic is coming from. In this case, most of traffic comes from external rather than YouTube search, then direct or unknown and suggestive videos.
Unfortunately, YouTube doesn’t show the rankings for your videos in Google but I’ll show you how to do this later. - If I click on external, it’ll show me Google Search but no keyword rankings.
- If I click on YouTube search, then it will show me the keyword rankings for the top keyword phrases on my channel.
- If I click on suggested videos, it also show me the top keyword phrases that are sending me suggested views.
Here’s how to check the top search terms and the top videos for your channel in YouTube Search, Google Search and suggested videos using Morningfame.
- Log into Morningfame.
- Click Analytics Report
- Click Algorithm.
- Under YouTube Search, I can see the top search terms and the top videos.
- On the Google search, I can see the top videos
- On the suggested videos, I can get the top videos that are sending me suggested views. I also get the top recommending channels that are sending me suggested views.
The biggest problem is with all the methods I’ve just showed you, is that you cannot quickly and easily track the keyword rankings for your videos in both Google and YouTube.

It says, “Your keyword phrases was successfully created“, so I can add more keywords if I want - I can click go to ranking reports.
It says, “Looks like you need to regenerate your ranking report“ - Click regenerate ranking report, this can take several minutes, please be patient.
