It’s too difficult.
It’s too competitive.
I fear being on camera.
I don’t have time to do everything
In the video below, I share the Pros and Cons of starting a YouTube channel in 2018 so you can decide for yourself whether you should start one or not.
CONS of starting a YouTube channel in 2018…
1. It’s too difficult.
If your motivation for starting a YouTube channel is to become famous like Justin Bieber or make a lot of money, you’ll be disappointed. For most people, this won’t happen immediately because it takes a lot of time and effort to grow a successful channel. If your motivation is to share your passion, to impact the lives of others and make the world a better place, it would be easier to keep going when the going gets tough.
YouTube is a marathon, not a sprint.
2. Too much competition.
This is true especially if your topic is in a very competitive niche. However, if you present your own unique viewpoint, people will be attracted to what you have to say. For example, you might have a passion for dog training and want to build a dog training channel. Think about how you can stand out from all the other dog trainers that have YouTube channels.
3. I fear being on camera.
When I started my YouTube channel, I had a great fear of being on camera. Then as I practiced more and more, I got comfortable at it. As you can see, the first video that I created was rather embarrassing. I’ve come a long way since then. If you focus on the message rather than on yourself, you’ll do fine. If you prefer not to show your face on camera, you can just do slides or screenshots of your computer.
4. I don’t have time to do everything.
If you want to be a YouTuber, you usually have to do everything; write the script, film the video, edit the video, optimize the video and promote the video. This takes up a huge chunk of time, especially in the beginning when you are learning everything. Therefore, be prepared to put a lot of hours until you get good at it or you want to outsource some of the work.
PROS or Benefits of starting a YouTube channel in 2018.
1. Work hard once and get rewarded for years to come.
YouTube is the second largest search engine after Google. 300 hours of videos are uploaded to YouTube every minute. Almost five billion videos are watched on YouTube every single day. This means it’s a great vehicle for generating traffic, leads, and sales because you can reach a large audience.
When you create a video on an evergreen topic that ranks on the search engine, it may generate traffic and leads for years to come. This is like having a full-time employee working for you 24 hours a day, seven days a week. When you have hundreds of videos that rank in the search engines, you create a river of traffic that is flowing continuously. For example, if you search YouTube for how to tie a tie, you’ll see videos that get millions of views.
2. Creative outlet.
YouTube is a great vehicle to share your passion, interest or topic with the world and impact other’s lives. It gives you the freedom to be uniquely you and not be tied down to a job that you may not like. The more you exercise your creative muscles, the better you become.
Testimony from Chris…
I mainly needed a new creative outlet. I do a lot of geeky projects and I was really interested in video and photography and I figured this was a perfect fit. I launched my channel in April of 2017, so a few months ago, and it’s been a wonderful journey ever since. If you’re interested in what’s going on at KilCreations, stop on by. It’s youtube.com/kilcreations.
Testimony from Sharon..
Hi, I’m Sharon Danley, creator of twominutetips, a channel dedicated to healthy self-esteem through inner and outer beauty with strength, style, and grace. As a retired master artist and film and TV, theater, business brides and those needing corrective help, I freely share my proven and first-rate techniques with you and simply ask that you pay it forward with your own time, talent, or money to a person or a group in need in your area.
3. Generate revenue.
YouTube has enabled me to generate a full-time income by using it as a traffic machine. I use it to generate leads and sales for my products, services and affiliate products. Keeping in mind this is not going to happen overnight, but with perseverance, you can do it too.
4. Be your own boss.
YouTube allows me to work wherever and whenever I want and generate revenue from it. The videos on my channel work like full-time employees that work for me 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and I don’t get tired or ask for days off.
Testimony from Gord…
I started my channel in YouTube because when I was let go at 50 years old from my corporate IT job, I decided that I wanted to fulfill a dream and be my own boss. I knew that in this next chapter of life, I wanted to fulfill my creative desires and to have an impact by serving individuals and small businesses. I wanted to teach them something I was very passionate about. On my channel, Gord Isman, I teach how to create and edit video, and video marketing. I’m now building a business and nowhere near ready to retire. I’m in this YouTube game with patience for the long run.
If you have a unique message, interest or topic you want to share with others,
I highly recommend starting a YouTube channel in 2018. You’ll be glad you did.
