1. Create an engaging 2-3 minute video

  • Start by telling viewers what your video is about and how it will benefit them
  • Provide a solution to a specific problem they are having
  • End your video with a strong call to action that redirects them to your landing page

2. Optimize your video

  • Title – create a catchy title that begins with your main keyword or keyword phrase
  • Description – this should contain a transcript of your video content. Add the title to the top of your description followed by the URL of your landing page.
  • Tags – Use your main keywords and related keywords in your tags.
  • Category – choose the same category for all your videos so they are all in the same location.
  • Privacy settings – set to private when initially uploading your video.
Change to public after you’ve finished optimizing your video.

3. Create a landing page

  • Redirect viewers from your video to your landing page (or squeeze page) by offering a free report on ebook in exchange for their contact information.
  • Use associated website annotations within your video to make it easy for viewers to access your page.

4. Build relationships with your subscribers

People need to be contacted several times before they purchase anything online. It helps breaks down the barriers so they can begin to know, like and trust you.

Use an email autoresponder service such as Aweber to automatically send follow-up emails. This helps build relationships with the people who have opted in to your list.

5. Recommend products and services

Provide valuable content first in your follow-up emails before recommending your products and services. In other words offer value that will help build and/or promote their business.

6. Promote your videos

After uploading your video share it on your social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Tumblr. This will help get your video ranked on YouTube and Google resulting in more traffic.

7. Track your leads

  • Set a goal how many leads you want to build up to by the end of each month.
  • Track how many leads you get (ie 10/day) each day.
  • Monitor the performance of your videos by using the analytics feature of your YouTube channel.
  • Review the quality of your video and your landing page copy if you’re not generating any leads
  • Ask for feedback from others as it’s often difficult to notice your own errors whereas others can.

5 Steps to More Views on YouTube

Video Marketing on YouTube is a highly effective traffic generation method if done properly. Most marketers make the mistake of simply uploading their video to YouTube then leave it as is. They don’t know how or take the time to promote it effectively and therefore miss out on generating traffic and potential sales.

5 Steps to More Views on YouTube

1. Identify your keywords

Keywords are how search engines will find your videos and rank them. Use Google’s free keyword tool to uncover the main keywords people use in your niche. Place them at the beginning of the title and description tags. Also include them in your video tags.

2. Call to action

If you don’t tell your visitors what to do and how to do it at the end of your video they’ll leave without taking any action. For instance it can be as simple as saying: “Download my free report on “5 Steps to More Views on YouTube” by visiting”

Here are 3 ways to add a call to action:

(i) Call to action overlay. This places a powerful effective banner inside your video that gets people to click through to your website. It only takes a few minutes to set up.

(ii) Add your full website address to the beginning of your description tag so visitors can immediately click on it to go to your website.

(iii) Add video annotations. This allows you to add interactive commentary to your videos.

Examples of how to use them include:

  • Add background information about the video
  • Create stories with multiple possibilities (viewers click to choose the next scene)
  • Link to related YouTube videos, channels, or search results from within a video

You control what the annotations say, where they appear on the video, and when they appear and disappear.

3. Upload a transcript of your video

I did this recently for a video article where I created a video slide show of the main points while a transcript of the entire content was displayed beneath the video while it was playing. Since I had already written the content I simply saved it as a text file and uploaded it to YouTube. Search engines are able to index the textual content which helps increase the rankings of your video.

4. Get backlinks

The quality and quantity of links pointing to your video will boost it’s rankings in the search engines and increase traffic and views. Get backlinks by adding your video URL to forum and blog posts. When submitting articles to article directories and ezines in your niche include your video URL in the author resource box.

5. Share your video with others

Use social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn to notify others about the new video you’ve uploaded. Send an email to your list of subscribers and/or embed the video in a blog post. The wider your audience the more views you’ll receive from your YouTube videos.
